TEN REASONS WHY I'D BE A BAD PORN STAR
WRITTEN & PERFORMED BY MAY LEE-YANG
DIRECTED BY KA VANG
In "Ten Reasons Why I’d Be a Bad Porn Star", May Lee-Yang employs comedic storytelling, on-site sex toy demonstrations, and some cultural competency training as she explores marriage, porn, romance novel fantasies, and how to talk about sex in the Hmong culture (a definite no-no).
TEN REASONS WHY I'D BE A BAD PORN STAR was originally developed through and featured at the Illusion Theater's Light's Up Series. It was also featured at the 2011 National Asian American Theater Festival in Los Angeles, CA and the 2011 Minnesota Fringe Festival.
“May Lee-Yang is fun to watch on stage, really funny and engaging, and she’s clearly a strong writer.”
“She offers some strong cultural criticisms with her cutting adult humor, including on the emasculation of Asian men in western movies, and the lack of a word for sex in Hmong. If “Porn Star” is often hilarious, it’s because her humor is so insightful.”
“Being a Hmong woman who has taught sexual health education and makes a living selling sex toys, Lee-Yang has plenty to say about the way she reconciles these two aspects of her life. Her comedic insight into her culture’s view of sex imparts diverse knowledge onto the rest of us.”
